Renovating in Alexandria
Alexandria's older housing — particularly in and around Old Town — brings constraints that suburban work does not: narrow access, shared party walls, limited parking for deliveries, and in some areas historic review requirements that affect anything visible from the street.
Inside, these houses often have solid masonry walls that are anything but flat, and floor structures that have moved over a long time. Tiling them well is largely a question of how the substrate is corrected, because none of the surfaces can be assumed to be plumb, level, or square.

- Solid masonry in older properties is rarely flat enough for large-format tile without correction. That correction — a render coat or a boarded and battened plane — is real work and appears as a line in the proposal rather than being absorbed silently.
- Exterior work and historic review
- Window and door replacement on properties within a historic district may be subject to review of anything visible from the street. We will tell you what we understand the position to be and recommend you confirm requirements with the city before units are ordered.
- Party walls and neighbours
- Demolition in an attached house is felt next door. We agree working hours in advance and keep the noisiest stages predictable so you can give your neighbours honest notice.
