Tile quantity calculator

Measure the room, choose a waste allowance that matches your layout, and the calculator returns the area to order and the number of boxes, always rounded up. Under-ordering is the expensive mistake — a tile batch that runs out cannot always be matched.

Ten percent suits a straightforward layout. Allow 15% for diagonals and 20% for herringbone.

In square feet. Printed on the box, and listed on our product pages.

Choosing the waste allowance

10% — straight lay
A straightforward grid or brick pattern in a rectangular room, with tile sized sensibly for the space.
15% — diagonals and offsets
Diagonal layouts, 45-degree sets, and rooms with many corners, alcoves, or fixtures to cut around.
20% — herringbone and patterns
Herringbone, chevron, and any pattern where every edge tile is a directional cut. Natural stone with strong variation often needs this too, to allow for selection.

Keep a few spare tiles from the same batch after the job. A future repair with a matching tile is trivial; the same repair with a near-match never quite disappears.

We check quantities before you commit

Send us your room dimensions and the tile you are considering, and we will confirm the order quantity against the layout — including pattern loss and trim.
